Azam Khan in trouble- UP orders probe into funds' misuse
The Uttar Pradesh government has directed a probe into the alleged diversion of PWD funds into a private college owned by former Samajwadi Party minister Azam Khan. Government funds of over Rs. 150cr were allegedly misused and instead spent on various projects at the Jauhar University in Rampur, including in the construction of a fly-over, guest houses etc.
A series of alleged violations for Khan's university
Khan has angered several quarters for his university. He allegedly grabbed wakf and public property, including cremation grounds and madrasas. He even ordered the demolition of 47 houses of Dalits obstructing the road leading to the institute. A fatwa was issued against him by Madrasa Jamia Naimia Arabic University for allegedly demolishing a cremation ground, which is "against Islamic laws".
'Will blow up Jauhar with dynamite if you launch probe'
Earlier, Khan had threatened to "blow up the Jauhar University with dynamite if any attempts were made by the government to hold any probe or stall ongoing projects at the University". However, UP minister Baldev Singh Aulakh said he wasn't worried about the threats.
