9 people missing after avalanche hits Kashmir's Kupwara district
Nine people went missing after an avalanche hit Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday evening. Six of them were travelling in a passenger cab. The remaining three were on foot, reported news agency ANI. The avalanche reportedly struck near the Khooni Nallah area on the Kupwara-Tangdhar road. Read on to know more.
Darkness, bad weather hampering rescue operations
The local police, Army, State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and mountain rescue teams have launched a massive search operation. However, they haven't been able to find anyone yet because of increasing darkness and bad weather. Another avalanche reportedly hit the personnel of Border Roads Organization (BRO) in Kashmir's Project Beacon area. Information about further developments is awaited.
