LPG cylinder put on tracks in attempt to derail train
An attempt to derail the Kalindi Express, en route from Prayagraj to Bhiwani, was thwarted on Sunday morning in Shivrajpur, Kanpur. The incident occurred when an LPG cylinder was deliberately placed on the tracks. The train collided with the cylinder before coming to a complete stop, hurling it off the tracks.
Probe underway
The incident was reported around 8:20am on Sunday, prompting senior officials to immediately rush to the scene. A thorough investigation was initiated by the police, with assistance from a forensics team and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chandra said that the loco pilot had spotted the LPG cylinder on the tracks and promptly applied emergency brakes.
Train collision with LPG cylinder
Following the collision, the train remained stationary at the incident site for approximately 20 minutes. It was later halted again at Bilhaur station for further investigation. Chandra revealed that a damaged LPG cylinder, a bottle of petrol, and matchboxes were recovered from the spot. Efforts are currently underway to identify those responsible for this act.
Cylinder thrown 50 meters away
The incident took place near Muderi village's crossing between Barrajpur and Bilhaur stations on the Kanpur-Kasganj route. After colliding with the high-speed train, the cylinder was thrown about 50 meters away. Signs of people sitting were also found in nearby bushes. A forensic team conducted an investigation there. This is not the first such incident in Uttar Pradesh; on August 17, 22 coaches of the Varanasi-Ahmedabad Sabarmati Express derailed near Kanpur after hitting an "object."
