The shocking reason behind Haryanvi singer Mamta Sharma's murder
An associate of Haryanvi folk singer Mamta Sharma was arrested on Saturday for killing her, two days after her body was recovered in Rohtak's Baniyani village. Mohit Kumar, 27, helped Mamta with her performances and commute. However, their equation had lately been strained, with Mamta allegedly paying Mohit inadequately and scolding him over trivial matters. Frustrated with her, he murdered Mamta on January 14.
Here's what happened
Mohit had to pick Mamta - who performed at religious gatherings - on January 14 for an event in Sonepat. Seeing his chance, he plotted her murder with his friend Sandeep. While driving her on Sunday, they had a confrontation over his coming late. Angry, Mohit slit Mamta's throat with a knife, killing her. He disposed her body in Baniyani village with Sandeep's help.
Mohit mislead cops, Mamta's family for days
Mohit went with Mamta's family the next day to file a missing person complaint at Kalanaur police station. He told everyone that en route Sonepat, 40-year-old Mamta voluntarily left with her friend and never returned. It was only during sustained questioning that he confessed to committing the heinous crime. He and Sandeep have been arrested and were produced in a court on Saturday.
Growing incidents of violence against female Haryanvi artistes
Mamta's shocking murder comes shortly after the killing of another Haryanvi singer, Harshita Dahiya, who was gunned down in Panipat two months ago. Another state performer Aarti Bhoria had filed an FIR on January 3 alleging that she was getting rape and death threats.
