Assam Rifles seize 622.5kg explosives, apprehend 3 in Mizoram
What's the story
The Assam Rifles have seized a huge cache of explosives and arrested three persons on the outskirts of Aizawl, Mizoram.
The operation was carried out on February 21, after receiving intelligence reports about possible explosives in Sakawrtuichhun.
A mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) was set up on Sakawrtuichhun Quarry Road to carry out the operation.
Operation details
Vehicle interception leads to explosive discovery
During the operation, Assam Rifles personnel intercepted a vehicle on its way from Aizawl to Sakawrtuichhun.
A detailed search of this vehicle resulted in the seizure of 4,980 sticks of emulsion explosives, weighing around 622.5kg in total.
The three occupants of the vehicle, which included two women, were arrested on the spot.
Investigation underway
Suspects and seized explosives handed over to police
After the seizure, the Assam Rifles handed over both the suspects and the seized items to Mizoram Police.
An FIR has been registered and an investigation in this case is underway.
Preliminary findings of this investigation indicate that no underground elements were involved in this incident.
They could be stone quarry operators who had excess explosives in their possession, an officer at Vaivakawn Police Station said.
