Ashwini Upadhyay: News
Ashwini Upadhyay is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician and an advocate practicing in the Supreme Court of India. He is popularly known as the “PIL Man of India” for the scores of Public Interest Litigations (PILs) that he has filed over the years in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. Upadhyay did his LLB from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Uttar Pradesh. Some of his notable PILs include Implementation of Uniform Civil Code (in Delhi HC); Population Control Law (in Delhi HC); Ban on Polygamy and Nikah Halala (in the SC); Linking property documents with Aadhar (in Delhi HC); Appointment of Lokpal and Lokayuktas (in SC); National Policy to Promote Yoga (in SC); and National Policy to promote Hindi and Sanskrit (in SC), among many others. Upadhyay was a part of the Anna Hazare-led Jan Lokpal Bill movement and later a founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In 2014, he quit AAP to join BJP, expressing displeasure with the way AAP had adopted the very evils it sought to abolish. Upadhyay was soon appointed the spokesperson and lawyer for the Delhi BJP unit.
