Jaitley headed to US, for check-up related to kidney ailment
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley unexpectedly left for the US for a medical check-up relating to his kidney ailment on Sunday night, sources said. He's scheduled to present his sixth and NDA-government's last budget on February 1. Though it's supposed to be an interim one, it's widely expected that he'd deliver a full-length budget speech. Jaitley had a renal-transplant surgery on May 14, 2018.
Jaitely stopped attending office since last April, returned in August
Jaitley hadn't traveled abroad in last nine months due to his surgery. He was admitted to AIIMS last April following which he underwent dialysis. In his absence, Piyush Goyal was given the additional charge of Finance Ministry in May. Jaitley, 66, who had stopped attending office in the beginning of April, was back in North Block, the seat of Finance Ministry on August 23.
Jaitley previously had bariatric surgery and a heart surgery
Due to his kidney ailment, Jaitley, last April, had canceled his visit to the 10th India-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue in London. In September 2014, he had undergone a bariatric surgery to treat weight-gain that he suffered because of a long-standing diabetic condition. Complications developed post surgery, and Jaitley was shifted to AIIMS. He also had a heart surgery several years ago.
