2 held for bomb threat to Maharashtra Deputy CM's car
What's the story
Two men from Deulgaon Mahi village in Buldhana district have been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch for allegedly sending threatening emails about a bomb attack on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's car.
The accused, Mangesh Achyutrao Wayal, 35, and Abhay Gajanan Shingane, 22, are being brought to Mumbai for further investigation.
The threatening emails were received early Thursday morning at Goregaon and JJ Marg police stations.
Investigation progress
Threatening emails traced back to village
After receiving these threats, an FIR was filed against unknown persons at Goregaon police station.
The Mumbai police's investigation traced the source of these threatening emails to a mobile phone through technical analysis.
They traced the device's internet protocol (IP) address to Deulgaon Mahi and detained Wayal, the registered owner of the phone in question.
Arrests made
Five detained, 2 arrested in bomb threat case
Despite being detained, Wayal denied any involvement in the threats and said his device might have been misused.
Based on his statement, police detained four more villagers, including Shingane.
Upon further investigation, it was found Shingane had used Wayal's phone to send the threatening emails.
A team from Crime Branch Unit 12 is now escorting both Wayal and Shingane to Mumbai for further legal proceedings.
Threat timing
Deputy CM was in Delhi during the threat
Notably, at the time of the threat, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde was in Delhi for a swearing-in ceremony.
