BSF foils infiltration bid, shoots down intruder at Indo-Pakistan border
What's the story
The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in Pathankot, Punjab, on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the early hours of February 26 when BSF personnel deployed at the BOP Tashpatan border area noticed suspicious movement across the IB.
An unidentified person was seen trying to cross over to Indian territory. The intruder was warned but he reportedly kept advancing.
Decisive action
BSF neutralizes intruder, plans protest against Pakistan
Sensing a potential threat, BSF troops swung into action and neutralized the infiltrator.
The BSF said "the identity and motive of the intruder are being ascertained."
A strong protest will be lodged with the Pakistan Rangers over this attempted infiltration.
This incident comes days after a series of tensions along the border, including retaliatory firing by Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch sector on February 25.
Escalating conflicts
Recent border tensions and counteroffensives
Earlier in February, multiple incidents of terrorist activities across LoC had led to heightened counteroffensives by security forces.
On February 8, terrorists fired at a patrol from a forested area across LoC in Keri sector of Rajouri. This led to a retaliatory response from Indian soldiers.
In another incident on the night of February 4 and 5, a landmine explosion in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district killed terrorists trying to cross LoC.
