Delhi: Three men, including UPSC aspirant, arrested for arms dealing
On Tuesday, the police arrested three arms dealers from Delhi's Dwarka, among whom one is a civil services aspirant. It's alleged that the three men illegally acquired firearms from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, and sold them to criminals in Delhi, especially in the districts of Najafgarh and Uttam Nagar. How the gang operated
The trio have been identified as 25-year-old Aman Bhardwaj, 28-year-old Vishal Gahlot, and 22-year-old Ankur Choudhary. While Bhardwaj handled arms dealing operations in Najafgarh, Gahlot handled operations in the Uttam Nagar district. Choudhary, the civil services aspirant, hailed from Aligarh in UP and acted as the supplier of illegal weapons to be sold in Delhi.
How police caught on to the arms dealing operation
Police caught on to their arms dealing operation on November 29. The anti-auto theft squad from Dwarka's Sector 11 laid a trap for Bhardwaj and Gahlot, based on a tip that the duo would arrive near a public park in a Hyundai Verna. When police sprung the trap and surrounded them, the duo tried to open fire. However, officers successfully restrained them.
Choudhary was reportedly the mastermind of the operation
Subsequent interrogations of Bhardwaj and Gahlot led police to Choudhary, who was nabbed from his rented room in Ghaziabad, where he was preparing to take the UPSC exam. Police said that Choudhary was the mastermind of the operation, and had proposed to Bhardwaj and Gahlot that they could acquire illegal firearms from Aligarh and sell them in Delhi.
Three pistols, several live rounds, and a car were seized
While police recovered two pistols, and several live 7.65mm rounds from Bhardwaj and Gahlot, one more pistol and more live rounds were recovered from Choudhary. Police have also seized the Hyundai Verna that was used to deliver arms consignments to criminals in Delhi. Bhardwaj and Gahlot have already been produced in court, and now, Choudhary is the next in line.
