#AppleExecutiveMurderCase: Three policemen protesting arrest of accused constable suspended
Some police constables across Uttar Pradesh observed "Black Day" on 5 October and tied a black ribbon on their arms following the arrest and suspension of constable Prashant Chaudhary, the main accused in the murder case of Apple employee Vivek Tiwari. Following this, three police SHOs have been transferred and 3 constables suspended by the UP Police for staging the protest. Here's more.
The suspended and transferred policemen
Constables Jitendra Kumar Verma, Sumit Kumar, and Gaurav Chaudhary posted in Naka, Aliganj, and Gudamba police stations were suspended Friday evening for "creating dissatisfaction among fellow constables, and departmental inquiries had been initiated against them," said Uttar Pradesh DIG (Law and Order) Praveen Kumar. Lucknow SSP Kalanidhi Naithani was also directed to remove the SHOs of same police stations for the lack of supervision
Two expelled cops arrested for inciting other policemen to protest
As per an India Today report, two policemen, Brijendra Yadav and Avinash Prakash Pathak, who have been expelled, were also arrested from Mirzapur and Varanasi respectively for running a social media campaign against the arrest of constable Chaudhary.
Photos of policemen wearing black armbands circulated on social media
Police had acted on the protest when photographs of some constables sporting black armbands started circulating on the social media. Initially, the police said that the photos have been morphed but later some of them turned out to be genuine. Nonetheless, an inquiry has been set up and action will be taken against those who uploaded the pictures.
