There have been many IFS officers who have played an important role in shaping India’s foreign affairs. Anurag Srivastava, a 1999 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is one of those officers who played a major role in shaping India’s foreign affairs in the 21st century. Srivastava, a graduate in engineering and business management, began his professional life in the corporate sector. However, he left corporate life for the foreign service. During his tenure with the External Affairs Ministry, he has served in various capacities. He was a part of India’s permanent mission to the United Nations where he was an expert in human rights, trade, and refugee-related issues. Srivastava has also served as India’s ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti. Within the ministry, the roles played by him are multiple. He was part of the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran desk in New Delhi before he became the head of finance in the External Affairs Ministry. In 2020, Srivastava was appointed as the official spokesperson of the Ministry.
