Women’s rights have taken large strides since the turn of the 21st century. However, in a country such as India, women are still expected to give up their goals and aspirations for the sake of someone else. More often than not, they live a life to satisfy the aspirations of others including parents, husbands, or their children. To break away from the norm is not an easy task, but that’s exactly what Anu Kumari did when she decided to stay away from her child to prepare for the UPSC exam. Born on November 18, 1986, in Sonepat, Anu Kumari completed her B.Sc (Physics) from Delhi University. She then completed her MBA from IMT Nagpur. Her professional journey started with Aviva Life Insurance in Mumbai. She later shifted to Gurgaon after her marriage. It was in 2016 that Kumari decided to prepare for the civil services exam. With only a few months in her hand, she came awfully close to clearing the exam on her first try. The setback did not dishearten her as she tried even vigorously the next time and secured AIR 2 in the 2017 edition of the exam.
