Six cops killed in terrorist ambush in J&K's Anantnag
Six policemen were killed when heavily-armed terrorists ambushed their vehicle in J&K's Anantnag district. Their faces were mutilated in heavy firing. The terrorists intercepted their vehicle in Tajwara, opened fire and hurled grenades. Later, they escaped with arms and ammunition. SHO of Achabal police station, Feroz Ahmad Dar, was killed along with four constables and one Special Police Officer. Lashkar-e-Taiba has claimed responsibility.
In gruesome attack, terrorists shot the cops in point-blank range
The incident happened in the evening of June 16, a few hours after LeT commander Junaid Mattoo was killed in an encounter in Kulgam, and is believed to be in retaliation. The cops fought back but were outnumbered. The terrorists had positioned themselves strategically. Afterwards, they climbed into the vehicle and shot them at point-blank range, targeting their faces.
"We'll wipe out your whole terror gang"- Cops promise revenge
Apart from Dar, the deceased have been identified as constable Shariq Ahmed, constable Tasveer Ahmed, constable Sharaz Ahmed, Mohammed Asif and Sabzar Ahmed. Imtiyaz Hussain, Baramulla SSP, later tweeted, "Promise you Feroz, we'll wipe out the whole killer terror gang (sic)." This was the third attack on cops in 24 hours. Three cops were killed and at least one injured in the first two.
Salute to martyrs- Arun Jaitley condemns Anantnag attack
Condemning the attack, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley tweeted, "Killing of six policemen by terrorists in #Achabal is a cowardice act. My condolences to the bereaved families. Salute to martyrs (sic)."
Friends mourn Dar at his funeral in Pulwama
32-year-old Dar, a Pulwama resident, was buried at night in the family's ancestral graveyard at Dogripora. Words from a January'13 Facebook post by Dar haunted friends: "Just imagine...yourself in your grave. Down there in that dark hole...Alone." Colleagues said the father of two was a god-fearing Muslim who offered Namaz five times daily. It was Dar's hope that the situation in Kashmir became normal.
Solemn moments at Srinagar police headquarters
At the police headquarters in Srinagar, Tasveer Ahmed was laid to rest as cops showered petals. "Condolences for all the men that we lost today. This inhuman act will be punished and punished suitably," wrote DIG (South Kashmir) Swayam Prakash Pani on Facebook.
