Jammu: Three CRPF personnel suspended after woman alleges rape
Three CRPF personnel were suspended and a FIR was registered against them after a 24-year-old woman from the Poonch district in Jammu & Kashmir alleged that she was wrongfully confined and then raped by one of them inside a camp back in March. A case has been registered under J&K's Ranbir Penal Code, and an investigation is currently underway. Here's more.
The accused intercepted the woman in the evening
The woman had lodged a written complaint at the Domana police station on Saturday. She said that after alighting from a bus at around 7.30pm on 10th March, she was on her way to a relative's place when she lost her way. A bit later, she was intercepted by three CRPF personnel who took her to a camp. One of them allegedly raped her.
The CRPF personnel allegedly blackmailed the woman into silence
But that's not all. The woman also alleged that while she was being raped, one of the CRPF personnel filmed the entire assault, and later threatened to upload the same on social media if she approached the police about the rape. However, after one of them uploaded the video on a social networking site, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint.
CRPF: Internal probe launched, fully cooperating with police
CRPF spokesperson Ashish Kumar Jha confirmed that the woman had been found with two CRPF personnel inside the CRPF Group Centre at 10pm on 10th March. Since it had appeared to be a security breach prima facie, the police were informed and the woman examined. In light of the allegations, the CRPF has initiated a departmental inquiry and is "rendering full co-operation" to police.
