Bullet-riddled body of abducted J&K cop found
Hours after being kidnapped, the bullet-riddled body of a Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police constable was found this morning in Pariwan, Kulgam. Last night, terrorists had barged into the home of 27-year-old Javaid Ahmad Dar in Vehil, Shopian, before fleeing with him. Security forces later launched an operation to find him. Today, purported photos of a shirtless Dar were found circulating on social media.
Last month saw the cold-blooded murders of Bukhari, Aurangzeb
Last month saw the Valley being rocked by the audacious killings of reputed journalist Shujaat Bukhari and rifleman Aurangzeb. Bukhari was shot dead along with his two security guards in the high-security Press Colony area moments before Iftar. Meanwhile, Aurangzeb was visiting his home in Poonch to celebrate Eid with his family when terrorists abducted him. His bullet-ridden body was found later with injuries on head and neck.
During ceasefire, the Valley saw record violence
During Ramzan, the government declared a one-month ceasefire in Kashmir, the first in 17 years. But it had an opposite effect than intended. From 18 terror incidents during April 17-May 17, it shot up to more than 50 in the next 30 days. The number of grenade attacks (20) was the highest in a month in two years. The government resumed military operations mid-June.
