Mumbai has lately witnessed many such incidents
The city has been witnessing several such incidents of fire lately. This is at least the sixth case recorded this year. On January 8, the sessions court building caught fire. Two days before that, one person died in a huge fire at the Cinevista studio in Kanjurmarg. On January 19, there was a massive fire at the Navrang studio in Lower Parel area.
Glaring violation of safety norms in most cases
In most incidents, blatant disregard for safety norms and indifference of authorities were common factors. Sometimes there was no fire exit, or a structure was illegally constructed, or the firefighting system was defunct, or combustible material was found strayed across. The Navrang building too was "old (and) unoccupied." The approach route isn't smoothly accessible, so firemen had to station themselves at nearby buildings.
