'Honor killing': Andhra man kills daughter over her relationship
A man from Thotaravulapadu village of Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district allegedly killed his daughter with an axe on Saturday since he disapproved of her affair. The deceased, identified as T Chandrika, was a pharmacy student at Gudlavalleru College and was visiting home to celebrate her birthday. She had confided about her relationship to her mother. The father has now been taken into police custody.
Chandrika wanted permission to marry lover, family disagreed
Chandrika apparently sought permission from her family to marry the boy, her classmate, whom she loved. The family opposed the union since the boy belonged to a different community, and the marriage 'would get them a bad name'. Her father Thondapu Kotaiah advised her to forget the boy and agree to an arranged marriage. But Chandrika remained adamant on her choice.
Man lost cool after hearing daughter talk with lover
On the fateful day, Kotaiah saw his daughter talking to the boy on phone and lost his cool. He smashed the phone on the ground and the two got into a heated argument. Next, Kotaiah, a farmer, picked up an axe and hit Chandrika with its handle. She suffered severe head injuries and died immediately. Chandrika's death sent shock waves across the region.
Police getting details about Chandrika's lover from her mother
The police registered a complaint against Kotaiah on his wife Padma's complaint. They are yet to find out about the man Chandrika was in love with. "We are getting the details from her mother," Kanchikacharla inspector K. Murthy said. Almost two years ago, a 16-year-old girl was killed by her mother in the same district after the latter learned about her affair.
