Andhra government to give Rs. 1,000 to state's unemployed youth
Ahead of 2019 State Elections, Andhra Pradesh government has agreed to give an allowance of Rs 1,000 per month to every unemployed youth of the state. The Chandrababu Naidu-led government stated that under the scheme, titled 'Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestam', unemployed youth holding degree or diploma between the age of 22-35 can avail the benefit. Here's all about it.
Details about the scheme
The scheme will be eligible for everyone in a family, even if there is more than one beneficiary. It's promised to be implemented in a transparent manner like pension scheme. The money will be credited directly into the beneficiary's bank account through biometric authentication.
"Youth should keep a positive attitude, strive to learn"
Further, the CM, while discussing the 'Yuva Nestam Scheme', asked youth to keep a positive attitude and strive to learn new things on a continuous basis by updating their skills using technology. "The state government has been providing skill development training to 10 lakh youth and providing employment opportunities to them," he said, adding 260 training partners were appointed to train and employ them.
What else is the state planning?
Kollu Ravindra, the Minister for Sports, said that the State Cabinet will develop a youth policy to enhance education, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities among the youth and added that 'Yuva Bhavans' will be constructed in all the districts to provide training to the youth.
Editor's take: Providing doles is never the solution
Although it's heartening to see that the state is working towards reducing the unemployment among youth, but providing doles is hardly the solution. It is appeasement at best, and indirectly increasing the unemployment rate, at worst. It would certainly discourage the youth from seeking jobs.
