#NewsBytesExclusive: JEE AIR-2 Himanshu Singh on preparation, challenges, and more!
The results of the 2019 Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, conducted by IIT-Roorkee, were declared earlier on June 14. JEE-Advanced is the gateway for admissions to the prestigious IITs. This year, while Kartikey Gupta topped the exam, Himanshu Singh emerged the second topper with AIR-2. In an exclusive interview with NewsBytes, Himanshu talked about preparation, challenges, and also gave some tips to JEE aspirants.
'It feels nice': Himanshu on being the second topper
On bagging AIR-2 in JEE-Advanced 2019, Himanshu Singh said, "It feels nice. I am getting congratulatory messages from everywhere. My juniors are asking me how I prepared and all. It's nice." He added, "After the answer key was out, I was quite sure of being in the top three." Himanshu also revealed that it was his parents who inspired him to go for engineering.
Started preparing for JEE when he was in Class 11
Himanshu, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad, said that he was brought up in Gorakhpur where he did his schooling from. Asked when he started his JEE preparation, he said, "I specifically started preparing for JEE at the beginning of Class 11." He added, "My percentile score in JEE Main was 100; in JEE Advanced, my score is 340 out of 372 marks."
Himanshu used to study for 6-8 hours a day
Himanshu said he had joined FIITJEE coaching institute in South Delhi. On his preparation schedule, the topper said, "I used to study usually in the day, not in the night. And, I used to study for 6-8 hours a day." According to him, he was consistent with his work/preparation and his strategy was to ensure that the results are consistent with his hard work.
Teachers and parents were quite supportive: Himanshu
On the challenges he faced while preparing for JEE, Himanshu said, "There are a lot of challenges every student faces. It could be regarding the subjects, academics, and sometimes it could be about lack of motivation." "My teachers and parents were quite supportive. So, I could get through the challenges quite easily," he added, talking about how he overcame challenges during JEE preparation.
Was a little active: Himanshu on using social-media during preparation
Asked if he was active on social media during JEE preparation or chose to stay away, Himanshu said he was a little active. He said, "I was a little active on social media; used to keep in touch with teachers. I was active on WhatsApp."
Be consistent in hardwork; remain stress-free: Advice to aspirants
During the interview, Himanshu also talked about his career plan. He said, "Next, I am planning to pursue BTech from IIT Bombay in Computer Science & Engineering. I have not yet decided what to do after that." He also gave some tips for NewsBytes' readers aspiring to crack JEE. The topper said, "Be consistent in hard work. Remain calm and stress-free throughout the process."
