Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav: PM requests all MPs to participate
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday requested MPs and all public representatives to take part in Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav to mark India's 75 years of Independence, which will start from March 12 in Gujarat's Sabarmati Ashram. Addressing the BJP's parliamentary party meeting, Modi informed that the grand festival will be held at 75 locations across the country for 75 weeks.
March 12 marks the 91st anniversary of Salt Satyagraha
The celebrations of the grand festival will start 75 weeks before the date, i.e., on March 12, 2021. The day holds significance as it marks the 91st anniversary of Salt Satyagraha, launched by the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.
PM asked MPs to help with the COVID-19 vaccination drive
"The Prime Minister also gave a clarion call to the Members of Parliament that they should reach out to people and help in carrying out the COVID-19 vaccination drive by the government," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said. "MPs should help citizens by arranging vehicles to take them to the vaccination centers, make arrangements at the centers and through other possible means," he added.
PM Modi's 'able and effective leadership' applauded at the meet
The BJP's parliamentary party meeting also passed a resolution applauding the Prime Minister for his effective leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. BJP President JP Nadda also addressed the party's parliamentary party meeting and said the party expanded its footprint and helped people during the pandemic.
PM will chair committee formed to mark 75-years of freedom
Last week, the government issued a gazette notification announcing the formation of a high-level committee to commemorate 75 years of India's independence on August 15, 2022. The panel will be headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has 259 members from different backgrounds like sports, arts, and politics. Congress President Sonia Gandhi, superstar Rajinikanth, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan are members of the committee.
