Amitabh Kant is a 1980-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog). He did his graduation in Economics from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, and an MA in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He entered the Indian Administrative Services and landed his first posting in Thalassery, Kerala. Kant leads Government of India's premier economic initiatives such as Make in India and Startup India, and is known for his stellar work in the tourism sector with Incredible India, Atithi Devo Bhava, and Kerala's God's Own Country campaigns. Over the years, Kant has operated in the Indian governance and policy making sphere in various capacities. Some of his appointments from a long list include Joint Secretary of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; Secretary of Tourism, Government of Kerala; CEO of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC); and Secretary of Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Government of India; among others. Kant became the CEO of NITI Aayog in 2016 for a fixed two-year term, but his tenure was extended thrice, the latest extension being in 2019, till June 2022.
