Ambani security scare: NIA seizes high-end bike
The NIA has seized a high-end bike, suspected to be registered in the name of an alleged woman associate of API Sachin Waze, arrested for his role in planting an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's residence, an official said on Monday. "Sleuths of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) brought the bike in a tempo to its South Mumbai office on Monday," he said.
The woman was questioned by NIA on Friday
"The woman, an alleged associate of suspended assistant police inspector Waze, was questioned by the NIA on Friday," sources said. "The probe agency had on Thursday searched a flat in Mira Road area which was in the woman's possession," they said.
Earlier, NIA seized around eight high-end vehicles used by Waze
"The NIA suspects that the woman accompanied Waze to a city-based hotel on February 16, before the explosives-laden SUV was found near Ambani's residence Antilia in Mumbai on February 25," the sources further said. The NIA had earlier seized around eight high-end vehicles used by Waze, who was arrested in connection with the case last month.
NIA also conducting a probe into Mansukh Hiren's death
The NIA is also conducting a probe into the death of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiren, who was in possession of the SUV before it was found with explosives near Ambani's house. Hiren was found dead in a creek in Thane on March 5. According to India Today, top officials said Hiren died by suicide. However, his family has refuted this claim.
Waze was initially the investigating officer of the case
To recall, on February 25, an abandoned Mahindra Scorpio with 20 gelatin sticks and a letter threatening the Ambanis was found parked near Antilia. Waze, who was an Assistant Police Inspector with Mumbai Police, was initially the investigating officer of the case. The Scorpio was registered in Hiren's name, but he filed a police complaint on February 18 alleging that the car was stolen.
Waze's NIA custody extended till April 7
A special court of the National Investigation Agency in Mumbai on Saturday extended the agency's custody of suspended officer Waze until April 7. Although the NIA sought an extension of six days, the court granted only a four-day extension.
