Amarnath Yatra gets suspended due to heavy rains
The Amarnath yatra which started on Thursday had to be suspended today as heavy rains lashed the region. The twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal were both suspended following heavy rainfall. An official of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board said the rains left the tracks slippery at some places hence making it risky to travel. Over 6,000 pilgrims paid obeisance at the shrine yesterday.
The Amarnath yatra began
The yatra which commenced yesterday amid tight security and under bleak weather conditions saw a man getting killed by a stone enroute the cave which houses the ice-lingam. J&K Governor NN Vohra was also a part of the first batch of pilgrims who paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine and prayed for peace and prosperity in the state.
Amarnath Yatra goes hi-tech: Drones, choppers for the first time
The Amarnath Yatra is going hi-tech. For the first time ever, there will be drones and helicopters for aerial surveillance along the route. That's not all. Security forces are also being equipped with jammers, bullet-proof bunkers, satellite tracking systems, CCTV cameras and dog squads. About 35,000-40,000 personnel have been deployed for the yatra, including local police and other forces posted in Kashmir.
Security beefed up to ensure safety of pilgrims
As the Amarnath yatra began from the Jammu base camp yesterday, J&K Deputy CM Dr. Nirmal Singh assured of all security arrangements that have been put in place. From a heavy security blanket of over 40,000 troops, including the police, the Army, the BSF and the CRPF to CCTV cameras, satellite tracking system, dog squads, everything has been arranged to safeguard the pilgrims.
