Amarnath terror strike: Protesters across Gujarat cry for revenge
People in Gujarat took their anger over the recent terrorist strikes on Amarnath pilgrims to the streets, as protests erupted over several districts and cities in the state. They condemned Pakistan and demanded revenge from PM Modi, who also hails from the state. A majority of the victims in the Amarnath terror strike were from Gujarat. Read all about the protests here!
Terror attack: 7 Amarnath pilgrims killed, 3 policemen injured
In Anantnag, at least seven people were killed and 14 injured when an Amarnath convoy was attacked by the terrorists. Terrorists opened fire on vehicles carrying the pilgrims. "Some gunshots were heard on Jammu-Srinagar Highway near Batengoo, two yatris have been killed, four others sustained injuries," a police source said. The attacks were widely condemned by PM Modi.
Amarnath strike: Gujarat's losses
Five out of the seven pilgrims who lost their lives hailed from Maharashtra. Further, the bus which was targeted by the terrorists undertook its journey from the Valsad district in Gujarat.
What went down?
Protests were held in places including: Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Jamnagar and Modasa. While protesters hung a black effigy of terror at Azad Chowk in Valsad, effigies were also burned in Gandhidham and Mandvi in Surat and Kutch respectively. Garment owners in Valsad took to dressing up their mannequins in black clothes protesting uniquely and hung messages asking the government to curb terrorism.
What do they want?
The protesters want stern action to be taken against terrorists, 'avenge' the attack and take action against Pakistan for aiding terror. Muslims in Valsad district also expressed solidarity and called for action against terrorism in Pakistan and the Kashmir Valley.
