MP Amar Singh alleges increasing Maoist activity at DU, JNU
Member of Parliament Amar Singh raised a question before the Human Resource Development Ministry in Parliament on April 6 on the alleged "alarming" rise in Maoist activities in institutes like Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University. Such activities had increased after Professor GN Saibaba of DU was sentenced to life imprisonment for his alleged Naxal links, Singh observed.

"Whether the Government is aware that naxal-related activities among students of premier institutes like JNU and DU are growing at an alarming rate and magnitude," Singh asked in parliament. "Whether it is a fact that consequent upon indictment and sentencing of a Professor of DU and others by the court in Maharashtra, these activities have become more glaring," he further asked.
JNU, DU deny allegations
Minister of State for Human Resource Development Mahendra Nath Pandey confirmed that both institutions had denied such activities among students. DU reported that there had been no change subsequent to Saibaba's indictment.
Saibaba's indictment and Naxalism in JNU
Saibaba was charged with helping Maoists with logistics and recruitment, often targeting students at JNU and DU. After his indictment in March, IG Maharashtra CID (crime) Ravindra Kadam said Naxal activities were being carried out at "alarming rate and magnitude". In January, a DU professor, a JNU professor and other suspected Maoists were arrested for the alleged murder of a tribal in Chattisgarh's Sukma.
Students, teachers under surveillance?
Sources in Delhi Police told 'Mail Today' that students, student organizations, as well as teachers at DU and JNU associated with Saibaba and other known people with Naxal links are being kept under watch.
