Bengaluru: Alliance University Chancellor arrested for murdering former V-C
The Bengaluru police have solved the murder of former Alliance University Vice-Chancellor, D Ayyappa Dore (53), who was found dead on Wednesday. The police on Thursday arrested the Chancellor of the private university, Sudhir G Angur (57), and his accomplice, Suraj Singh (29), an executive at the same university. Reportedly, the reason behind Dore's murder is an old family feud. Here are more details.
Dore went missing after Tuesday night walk
Dore had left his RT Nagar residence on Tuesday night for a walk after dinner, as was his daily routine. On Wednesday morning, Dore's wife, Pavana Dibbur, realized that he hadn't returned home and started looking for him. At 6 am, the police on patrol found Dore's body with slash wounds at RT Nagar's HMT Ground, according to The News Minute.
5-6 people were tracking Dore on the day of murder
Dibbur alerted the Hoysala police and a case was registered at the RT Nagar police station. City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said that Suraj kept a close watch on Dore for 4-5 months before the murder. According to The Indian Express, a group of five to six people tracked Dore's movements from 2 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Dispute at university helped solve murder: Commissioner Rao
Rao told reporters, "Eight teams were constituted and we were able to make headway soon because there was already a dispute within Alliance University, it facilitated our investigation. Within a short time, we were able to zero in on Sudhir Angur who led us to Suraj Singh." He said Suraj confessed to murdering Dore at Sudhir's behest and revealed the involvement of four others.
Blood-stained clothes, machete found from Suraj's home
Further, according to The Times of India, Sudhir was arrested from his BTM Layout residence while Suraj was nabbed from home in JC Nagar on Wednesday night. The police found blood-stained clothes and a machete used in the crime from Suraj's home.
What was the reason behind the murder?
The murder was allegedly planned by Sudhir, who wanted to get the upper hand against his brother, Alliance University ex-Chancellor Madhukar Angur, in a family feud over management of the university. Dore reportedly helped Madhukar fight legal battles against Sudhir. The murder was committed to prevent Madhukar from gaining control in the university. The police said that Madhukar was the next target for murder.
Sudhir paid Rs. 1 crore for murder: Rao
Highlighting that the Bengaluru police prevented Madhukar's murder, Rao said that out of the five people involved in the murder, four are still absconding and a hunt is on. According to TOI, Sudhir had paid Rs. 1 crore for the murder.
