Allahabad: Violent protests erupt after BSP leader shot dead
BSP leader Rajesh Yadav was shot dead outside a hostel near the University of Allahabad on October 2. Angry BSP workers burnt down a roadways bus and attacked a hospital in a violent protest, demanding that the culprits should be arrested immediately. A heavy police presence was deployed near Allahabad's Indian Press Crossing to bring the situation under control.
Yadav had an altercation at hostel, was shot
Yadav had gone to meet someone with his friend Dr. Mukul Singh at Tara Chand Hostel, where he was involved in an altercation with some people, according to preliminary investigations. Dr. Singh said Yadav was attacked by some people who opened fire on him at around 2:30am. Yadav received a bullet injury on his stomach and died after being rushed to hospital.
Police are investigating murder, empty cartridges found in Yadav's car
Yadav hailed from Duguna village of Bhadohi. He contested the UP assembly elections in 2017, representing the BSP. Police said some empty bullet cartridges were found in Yadav's vehicle. BSP workers allegedly set two buses on fire and attacked a hospital following Yadav's death. Yadav's murder is being investigated and an FIR would be lodged after police received a complaint.
