Coronavirus: All Bhopal shops closed until further orders, says DM
The Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh will now face a stricter lockdown as the number of coronavirus cases continue to rise. Starting midnight on Monday, all shops in the district will remain closed until further orders, except for dairies and medical stores. Bhopal is the second district in India after Indore, also in MP, to shut all shops. Here are more details.
'Food distribution by municipality will be allowed'
According to ANI, Bhopal District Magistrate Tarun Kumar Pithode said, "All shops, except dairies and medical stores, in Bhopal are to remain closed till further orders." Pithode added, "Food distribution by Municipality and home delivery permitted by the concerned officer will be allowed." The tougher restrictions come into effect from 12 am Monday until further orders.
13 dead in Madhya Pradesh; Indore district worst-hit
Till Saturday, Madhya Pradesh had reported 179 cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Indore (128 cases, including 7 deaths), Bhopal (15), Morena (12), Jabalpur (8), Ujjain (7, including 2 deaths), Khargone (3, including 1 death), Chhindwara (2, including 1 death), Gwalior (2), and Shivpuri (2). Total deaths in MP were 11. The deaths in Indore have now reached nine, taking MP's death toll to 13.
No function, large or small, should be held: CM
MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said Sunday, "No function, large or small, should be held. If someone organizes such functions or obstructs the medical procedure, then FIR will be registered against them and they will be sent to jail."
'Took strict action against those who attacked health staff'
Addressing the recent incident of violence against healthcare workers in Indore, Chouhan said, "It's important to save lives so health staff went back to those areas...We took strict action against such people. We invoked the National Security Act (NSA)." The healthcare workers were attacked while screening people in Indore's Tatt Patti Bakhal area. Four assailants were charged under the NSA.
Tablighi Jamaat: Passports of 57 foreign nationals seized
Chouhan said that 57 foreign nationals linked to the Tablighi Jamaat event have had their passports seized and will be blacklisted. Over a thousand cases across India have been linked to a mid-March religious congregation held in Delhi by the Islamic missionary group Tablighi Jamaat.
India reports over 3,500 COVID-19 cases
According to the latest update from India's Union Health Ministry, by 6 pm Sunday, India reported a total of 3,577 COVID-19 cases. These included 83 deaths and 3,219 active cases, along with 274 cured/discharged patients, and one patient who has migrated out of India. However, a lag has been observed in the updates on the Ministry's website and the tally is much higher.
At least 126 COVID-19 deaths reported across India
Till Saturday night, 99 deaths had been reported. The total death toll in India is at least 126, counting the 13 new deaths in MP, 45 in Maharashtra, six in Punjab, five in Rajasthan, five in Tamil Nadu, 11 in Telangana, 3 in Uttar Pradesh, seven in West Bengal. A Himachal woman who died in PGIMER, Chandigarh, has not been reported by either state/UT.
Maharashtra: Mumbai reports 8 new deaths; Pune reports 3
Maharashtra has reported 45 deaths thus far. On Sunday, eight new deaths were reported in Mumbai, taking the city's toll to 30. Three more deaths were reported in Pune. One death each was reported in Kalyan, Dombivali, and Aurangabad.
