    What's the story

Riding on the wave of digitization, the Indian government has launched a mobile app called the 'Passport Seva app' to make the passport application process seamless.

The idea is to enable citizens to apply for their passports using just their smartphones.

This app is available for download on both Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store.

    Here are the details.

    Procedure

Here's how you can apply for passport using the app

To apply for a passport using the 'Passport Seva' app, you first need to create a user account by selecting your passport office and entering your basic personal details.

Then, fill and submit a passport application form.

After this, police verification will be done at the address mentioned in the app.

Upon successful verification, your passport will be delivered to the mentioned address.

Swaraj also announced 289 additional passport centers

Besides the introduction of the 'Passport Seva' app, the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also announced 289 additional passports registration centers to further enable Indian citizens to apply for passports from any part of the country.

Out of the 289 new passport centres, 212 have been established and another two have already started operating, Swaraj added.
