What's the story

Amid a raging debate on triple talaq, the spiritual head of the Ajmer Sharif dargah said the practice goes against Sharia. On the 805th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisty, Zainul Abedin Khan also asked Muslims to refrain from eating beef. He himself took a vow not to consume beef. The dargah is considered as one of the most sacred Muslim shrines in India.

What did he say?

Triple talaq "inhuman, anti-Islamic", says Khan

Khan, the shrine's diwan, said Muslims should give up eating beef to honour the religious sentiments of our Hindu brethren and follow Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisty, "who all through his life strived for peaceful coexistence of Hindus and Muslims". On triple talaq, he said it is "inhuman, anti-Islamic and against the gender equality". Khan is a direct descendant of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

Khan in support of strict punishment for cow slaughter

Khan said he supports Gujarat's recent law enforcing life sentence for cattle slaughter, terming it a "great deterrent". Many Muslim groups, however, are against a ban on triple talaq, which the Centre is batting for.
