AI trolls IndiGo over passenger manhandling video, then deletes ads
Air India took a jibe at IndiGo after a video of its staff thrashing a passenger went viral. One of its two ads said, "We raise our hands only to say Namaste." The other said "Unbeatable service" with the 'beat' in blue (IndiGo's color) and the rest in red, AI's trademark. It said the association is "purely coincidental", but the ads have been removed.
The viral video shows a man being dragged and thrashed
IndiGo staff assaults passenger, employee who recorded video sacked instead
There was outrage on social media after the video of IndiGo staff dragging and thrashing a passenger at the Delhi Airport went viral. Soon, the airlines issued an apology and said it had taken action against the "main culprit by immediately terminating his employment". However, things turned worse as reports emerged that the "main culprit", according to IndiGo, was the employee who released the video.
Ad in the name of Jet Airways also emerged
Like Air India, another creative emerged from 'Jet Airways', declaring, "We beat our competition, not you." However, Jet released a statement saying it hadn't commissioned the ad. "The creative does not reflect our philosophy and ethos and is in fact, in bad taste," it said.
Airline ad wars in India is nothing new
Airline ad wars go back long. In 2007, after Kingfisher advertized its interiors, Jet modified theirs and said, "We have changed." Kingfisher replied, "We made them change." GoAir said, "We haven't changed. We're still the smartest way to fly." AI and IndiGo had a war last year when IndiGo released ads subtly slamming AI. AI said it doesn't support "negative advertisement for competitors".
