Was sexually harassed for 6yrs; Air India did nothing: Air-hostess
In a letter to Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu, an Air India (AI) airhostess has accused a senior executive of sexual harassment since six years. He is a "predator" who's equal, if not worse, "than Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby put together," she wrote. Though she complained internally, the "old boys' club" reportedly protected him. Prabhu has asked AI CMD to "immediately address the issue."
'He sexually propositioned, abused us, forced to drink with him'
According to the letter dated May 25, the "proud single mother" alleged the executive has "sexually propositioned me, abused me, used abusive languages on other women in my presence, spoken of sexual acts with me and other women in my presence in office premises." He has "tried to compel women in his office (including me) to come and drink with him at various bars."
'He insulted, denied me positions when I rejected his advances'
When she rejected his advances, "he insulted and denied me positions and privileges...he has made my life a misery and work and continues to do so." She complained to the management last September, but no action was taken, she wrote. She then "appealed to the ministry who ensured that AI sexual harassment committee heard the case." But her "frustration" didn't end there.
'Ministry-ordered committee conducted a shoddy probe'
"Sadly the AI women's cell did nothing...The lady chairperson of the committee had the temerity to respond 'you know how he talks. He has even flirted with me like this so many times'." "The committee took over three months to summon him and never gave us a chance to cross-examine him. Even though we volunteered, the committee felt no need to call us."
Will form another committee if required: Suresh Prabhu
In the letter titled 'Request for Justice,' which has also been marked to the PM, the airhostess sought a "neutral" investigation committee to look into the matter. She added she would name the executive if she got an audience with Prabhu. Responding to the letter, the aviation minister tweeted, "Asked Air India CMD to immediately address the issue. If necessary, will appoint another committee."
