Ahead of I-Day, Delhi police arrests man linked with ISIS
Ahead of the Independence Day, the Delhi Police have arrested Rizwan Ali, a key member of an Islamic State module. Ali, a resident of Daryaganj in Delhi, had reportedly conducted reconnaissance of several critical locations across the national capital along with his associates. The police also recovered weapons from him. This arrest comes as the city's law enforcement agencies ramp up security measures for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Delhi Police procure 700 AI-based facial recognition cameras
To strengthen security arrangments, the Delhi Police have also procured 700 Artificial Intelligence-based facial recognition CCTV cameras to bolster security arrangements in the city. These cameras will be installed in and around the north and central districts, particularly around the Red Fort where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his Independence Day speech. The north district will receive 346 CCTV cameras while the central district will be allotted 354 cameras.
'AI-based facial recognition will ensure foolproof security'
A senior police officer said, "These cameras have pan-tilt-zoom features with high resolutions which will allow police to identify anyone from a distance." He added, "The AI-based facial recognition and video analytic systems will ensure foolproof security."
Over 10,000 security personnel to be deployed at Red Fort
More than 10,000 security personnel will be deployed at the Red Fort when Modi addresses the nation on Independence Day. Anti-drone systems will also be installed at the venue as part of several anti-terror measures being initiated. These measures include the installation of air defense guns. Furthermore, snipers, elite SWAT commandos, kite catchers and sharpshooters will be positioned at strategic locations for the security of the prime minister and other VVIP guests.
