'I feel young again', says MDH owner after death rumors
On Sunday, reports of 'Mahashay' Dharampal Gulati, the owner of MDH spices, passing away took over social media, which later turned out to be a hoax. Reacting to the rumors, Gulati said he felt younger now and happy that so many people were worried about his health. Gulati, who is 99 years old, established the Mahashian Di Hatti, popularly known as MDH, empire.
Born in undivided India, Gulati established empire from scratch
Born in Sialkot (in undivided India) in 1923, Gulati dropped out of school in Class 5. He joined his father's business 'Mahashian Di Hatti', and after partition moved to Delhi. He bought a tonga for Rs. 650 which he later sold and set up a shop under 'Mahashian Di Hatti of Sialkot Deggi Mirch Wale' banner. In 1959, the company was officially set up.
From humble beginning to empire, he came a long way
Having a humble beginning, MDH grew with time. The first manufacturing unit was set in Kirti Nagar. In 2017, Gulati was named FMCG sector's highest paid CEO drawing an annual salary of Rs. 21 crore. His charitable trust has 20 schools and hospital.
Company asks everyone to not believe in rumors
Busting rumors of his death, MDH's executive vice-president Rajendra Kumar said the hoax has been doing rounds since Saturday. "I appeal to the people not to fall prey to such rumors," he told News18. It was Kumar who revealed the nonagenarian's reaction to the hoax. A source close to his daughter Kiran Grover also dismissed the rumors and said he is healthy and hearty.
