Allahabad HC stays admission through NEET in Ayurveda, Unani colleges
The Allahabad High Court, today, stayed admissions till November 12 in Ayurveda and Unani colleges through NEET on the basis of lowered percentage marks. The Center, in consultation with UP's government, had taken a decision to reduce the percentage for granting admission through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Hearing a bunch of petitions, Justice Vivek Chaudhary of Lucknow bench passed the order.
Petition states differences between NEET, college admission requirements
Bringing out discrepancies, the petitions stated that no age limit is provided for admission in Ayurveda and Unani colleges but in NEET, it's 25 years. "Though there's no requirement of having English in Class-XII, such a condition is imposed in NEET. Similarly, for admission in Unani colleges, the law makes Urdu compulsory but no test with its regard is mentioned in NEET," they pleaded.
Many qualified students couldn't get through Ayurveda, Unani colleges
Thus, a large number of qualified students have remained out of the examination process for Ayurveda colleges, and no student got a chance for Unani medical colleges. Citing these reasons, petitioners challenged the admission procedure through the NEET with regard to the respective colleges. At the time of the hearing, Principal Secretary, medical and health, of the State Government was present in the court.
