Bareilly- At least 22 killed as bus collides with truck
At least 22 people were charred to death and another 15 wounded with burn injuries when a bus collided with a truck in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, in the intervening night of June 4-5. Several remain critical. The injured were rushed to a local hospital. Authorities are probing the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
Most passengers were asleep when the accident happened
The incident happened on an under-construction stretch of the Bareilly-Shahjahanpur NH24, near Invertis University. According to witnesses, the UP Road Transport Corporation bus, travelling from Delhi to Gondia, was speeding past a junction. The truck and the bus reportedly caught fire immediately after the collision, even before the passengers, most of them sleeping, could recover from the impact.
Victims badly burnt, disfigured
According to reports, severely burnt victims were rushed to different hospitals. "It is difficult to even determine the gender of the people," said Dr Shailesh Ranjan of the Bareilly district hospital.
