AAP's Amanatullah alleges ED at his house to 'arrest him'
Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and MLA Amanatullah Khan announced on Monday that an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team had arrived at his Okhla residence to arrest him. According to sources, the ED's visit is related to an ongoing money laundering investigation. Delhi Police and Central Reserve Police Force teams are also stationed at his residence. In a post on X, Khan stated, "An ED team has reached my house to arrest me."
Why does this story matter?
Notably, the agency has been investigating allegations of illegal recruitment and financial misconduct during Khan's tenure as chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board from 2018 to 2022. The ED alleges that Khan illegally recruited staff and unfairly leased Waqf Board properties during his tenure, resulting in financial gains through illegitimate means. The agency claims that he acquired "huge proceeds of crime" in cash through these illegal activities and invested these in purchasing immovable assets in the name of his associates.
Khan denied anticipatory bail by Delhi High Court
Earlier this year, the Delhi High Court refused to grant Khan anticipatory bail in March, citing his repeated evasion of summons from investigating agencies. The Supreme Court had also denied him protection from arrest. In a video on X, Khan said he has been replying to all the notices sent by the agency but a team is here to arrest him on a search warrant.

AAP leaders accuse BJP government of targeting opposition voices
To recall, several AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, have criticized the BJP government at the Centre. They allege that agencies are targeting those who raised their voices against the ruling party. On X, Sisodia said the only work left for the ED is to "suppress every voice raised against the BJP and break it." Singh claimed that the ED has no evidence against Khan and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "dictatorship" and the ED's "hooliganism" of continuing.
