ED arrests AAP's Amanatullah Khan after searches at his house
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case following searches at his residence. The arrest came after the MLA was questioned for about six hours, reports said. According to reports, the arrest is related to alleged irregularities in the appointments made by the Delhi Waqf Board and the leasing of its properties.
Why does this story matter?
The agency is investigating allegations of illegal recruitment and financial misconduct during Khan's tenure as chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board from 2018 to 2022. It claims Khan recruited staff unlawfully and unfairly leased Waqf Board properties, resulting in illegal financial gains. The agency alleges he obtained "huge proceeds of crime" in cash and invested them in immovable assets under his associates' names.
Khan released statement on Monday morning
On Monday morning, Khan posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) saying that an ED team had reached his Okhla residence to arrested him. In his video, Khan said he had been replying to all the notices sent by the agency but a team is here to arrest him on a search warrant.
