How to apply for Aadhaar for your minor kid
Many nursery schools in Delhi have mandated Aadhaar of kids for admission this time. The Directorate of Education had earlier said Aadhaar number of the parents would suffice, but several schools have mandated Aadhaar number for kids too, refusing to accept even enrolment number. The last date for application is January 17. Here's what you should do to get Aadhaar for your kid.
If the child is younger than five years
Children younger than five don't need to provide biometrics. Their Aadhaar cards are linked to their parents, so it's compulsory for you to have Aadhaar before registering your kid. Visit an enrolment center, fill up the application and submit it along with photocopies of your child's birth certificate as well as your Aadhaar. The child's biometrics will be recorded when he/she turns five.
If the child is older than five years
Those aged above five need to provide their biometrics, but the same information will have to be updated when he/she turns 15. Visit an enrolment center, fill up an application and submit it along with photocopies of your kid's birth certificate and your own Aadhaar. UIDAI will register your child's fingerprints and iris scans. Use enrolment number to track the status of your application.
Why are schools making Aadhaar number of students mandatory?
According to Tania Joshi, principal of Indian School, the Directorate of Education had complained last month that student data in the Unified District Information System for Education database were "mismatched and inconsistent in all schools." Principals had been asked to ensure updated Aadhaar records for all children. So this time, schools have insisted on Aadhaar details of students at the outset.
Which schemes want Aadhaar details of kids?
Aadhaar has been linked to the midday meal scheme, Integrated Child Development Services, National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme, Scheme for Providing Quality Education in Madrasa, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary Stage, and National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education.
