Aadhaar: How to verify mobile number and retrieve lost UID
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issues Aadhaar cards to the citizens of India, offers a number of allied services like online correction and updating the details in users' Aadhaar cards. So, if you wish to verify your mobile number in the Aadhaar database, or retrieve a lost Aadhaar Unique ID (UID), here's your step-by-step guide on how to go about it.
How to verify your mobile number on the UIDAI portal
On the UIDAI's homepage, click on 'Verify Email/Mobile number' under the 'Aadhaar Services' section. On the next page, enter your Aadhaar number, mobile and e-mail details, and click on 'Get OTP.' A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number. Enter this OTP, and if the records on both the ends match, your phone number will be verified.
How to retrieve lost UID/EID through your registered mobile number
On the UIDAI portal's homepage, click on 'Retrieve Lost UID/EID' link under the 'Aadhaar Enrolment' section. On the next page, select between Aadhaar number and Enrolment number, enter the required details such as name and mobile number, and click on 'Get OTP.' Now, enter the OTP sent on your registered mobile number. Finally, your Aadhaar EID/UID will be SMSed on your mobile number.
About locating an Aadhaar Center near you
To find a nearby Aadhaar center, click on 'Locate Enrolment & Update Centres' link on the UIDAI homepage. On this page, one will have to enter details like state, pin-code, and district, based on their area of residence, and then click on 'Search' button. Following this, a list of all nearby Aadhaar centers will be displayed on your screen.
