Madras-HC makes Aadhaar card compulsory for MBBS counselling in TN
The Madras HC today made it clear that Aadhaar card and its photocopy are compulsory during counseling to medical admissions in Tamil Nadu. Justice N Kirubakaran was passing interim orders on petitions alleging that students from other states were admitted to medical courses without any proper crosschecking of the nativity. Kirubakaran directed medical authorities to insist on furnishing of Aadhaar cards. Here's more.
Students from other states obtained TN nativity certificates fraudulently
The petitioners alleged that many students from other states have been allotted MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu based on nativity certificates obtained fraudulently, while adversely affecting the scope of students from TN to get admitted to the courses. G Karthikeyan, assistant solicitor general (ASG), sought time to get the details of the persons who applied in TN as well as in other states.
296 students last year procured MBBS seats through forged nativity-certificates
Earlier, a committee of advocates and government officials informed the court that a random verification of nativity certificates presented by 296 students admitted to MBBS (2017-18) courses in Tamil Nadu through NEET under CBSE category were found to be issued without any inquiry or scrutiny.
Judge directed the order to be published on websites, news-reports
After hearing the ASG and counsel for petitioners, the judge took the aforementioned decision and said that it will prevent students from other states from getting the benefit under the state quota. He added that this order should be published by authorities on websites and by way of news reports within two days. Justice Kirubakaran posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks.
