80-year-old Udaipur man marries his live-in partner, after 48 years
In a rather Bollywood style, an 80-year-old man from Udaipur finally got married to his 76-year-old live-in partner after 48 years of living together. Despite being married, Devadas Kalasua, had eloped with Magdu Bai, a woman from a neighboring village, decades ago. He then brought her home to his wife Champa Bai, and both women lived in peace with each other. Here's more about the extraordinary tale.
Children played cupid for father
Though Devadas's first wife Champa Bai maintained cordial relationship with her husband's lover Magdu Bai, after a while she shifted to Phalasiya to stay with her sons. For reasons which are quite obvious, Devadas and Magdu's relationship was not accepted by the village. This prompted his sons to take steps to change their father's life and give his relationship the respect it deserved.
How the marriage finally took place
Devadas's son Arjunlal, who teaches in a school, convinced his mother's relatives to give consent for the wedding. After their approval, the 'Bhanjana' ritual took place in which the groom's side gave 50 kg rice to the bride, and got 10 kg rice in return. It was a lavish wedding attended by grandkids and great-grandkids of Devadas.
