81 lakh Aadhaar numbers deactivated: Is yours one of them?
Not even a month after cancelling over 11 lakh PANs on account of multiple issuance, the government has now deactivated around 81 lakh Aadhaar accounts, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology said. The cancellations were done under sections 27 and 28 of the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016. Regional UIDAI officers have the authority to deactivate Aadhaar numbers.
How to find out if your Aadhaar is still active
Visit the UIDAI website at www.uidai.gov.in. Under the 'Aadhaar Services' tab, you will find an option to 'Verify Aadhaar Number'. Click on it. On the next page, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number in the relevant box and the Security Code displayed on the other box. The next page will tell you whether or not your number is active.
Earlier, the government had mandated Aadhaar-PAN linking
This is another step towards checking the presence of black money in the economy. Earlier, the government mandated Aadhaar-PAN linking, announcing that it will be mandatory to provide Aadhaar details or enrolment ID while applying for PAN.
