DU journalism students suspended for disrupting classes; students cry foul
Eight students of the DU's Delhi School of Journalism were today suspended for allegedly disrupting classes while students claimed that they were protesting for their demands. Around 100 students have been protesting since yesterday against the lack of facilities in the college despite the college charging over Rs. 60,000 annual fees. Sources claimed that later that the students' suspension was revoked following student protests.
Institute doesn't even have functional computers: Suspended student
One of the suspended students said, "We've been staying in the college since yesterday because despite paying high fees, the institute doesn't even have functional computers. We want to meet the DU Vice-Chancellor to express our concerns but we aren't being helped."
Protest started after a student was denied entry inside college
Another student said today they protested outside the Director's office after one of their fellow students was denied entry inside the college. The student had stepped out for refreshment but when he tried to come back, the security didn't allow him to enter. "We protested outside the Director's office to allow him to enter. The security manhandled us and called the police," he said.
Institute official says students haven't paid the fees
An official from the institute said the students haven't paid the fees and therefore have not been provided laptops. "They shouted slogans outside the Director's office and manhandled her. The security personnel thus called the police," he said. He said they assured them that 2-3 students would be allowed to meet the VC but they insisted that all 100 of them should be allowed.
