66-inch water pipeline leaks on Mumbai road, traps car
A road intersection in Dadar, central Mumbai, experienced a cave-in on Thursday. The incident, which occurred around 11:30am at the bustling Kismat junction on Veer Savarkar Marg in Dadar West, resulted in a car's tire getting trapped within a 3ft x 5ft crater. However, no injuries were reported from this incident. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) later confirmed that the road cave-in was caused by a leak in a 66-inch underground pipeline.
Pipeline leakage identified as cause of road cave-in
The leakage was located on the lower part of the pipeline, which the BMC said it noticed after further excavation for repair work. However, repairs to the pipeline were postponed due to scheduled water supply in the area and were finally undertaken in the evening. The BMC stated that the pipeline repair would take some time and this would affect the water supply in the area during this period.
Every effort being made: BMC
"Every effort is being made to complete the task on time. If the work takes longer, there will be a water supply interruption in G/South Ward, including N M Joshi Marg, Curry Road, Lower Parel, and N M Joshi BDD on September 13 from 4.00am to 7.00am," the civic body said late Thursday. "In Sane Guruji Marg, there will be a low-pressure water supply. Residents are requested to take note and cooperate by using water sparingly," stated the note.
