India's ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, expected to be completed by August 2022, may be delayed due to land acquisition hurdle in Maharashtra, but the facilities it's going to provide are surely one-of-a-kind. From dedicated child feeding room to extra-spacious toilets, from separate washrooms for men and women to baby-changing rooms, the train will surely be a luxury experience. This train will have special facilities for babies, too
The 750-seater train would provide a number of facilities that the Indian rail network is going to have for the first time. The train will have special facilities for sick people, luggage space for passengers, two extra-spacious toilets for wheelchair-bound passengers. The 10-coach high-speed train will have baby toilet seats, tables for diaper disposal, and a low sink for children to wash hands.
Now, you will have freezer, tea/coffee maker on train
The new generation Japanese high-speed train, which has 55 seats for business class and 695 seats for standard class, will introduce wall-mounted type urinals for men. Also, according to the blueprint, urinals and toilets will be installed in alternate coaches. The train will have a freezer, tea/coffee maker, boiling water facility, hot case; a hand towel warmer will also be provided in business class.
Bullet train to have automatic seat rotation system
The coaches of mega bullet train project will have comfortable automatic seat rotation system. The project will also witness coaches that will have LCD screens to display current station, next stopping station, destination, schedule, and expected time to reach next stop and destination stations.
So, what will be so great about bullet train ride?
Firstly, the 508km Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will have India's longest underground tunnel and 7km of it will be under the sea. With an average speed of 320kmph and a maximum speed of 350kmph, Mumbai-Ahmedabad travel time will be cut down by up to five hours from the current seven hours. Also, a sound-absorbing material will be used to make the trains noise-free. Talk about comfort!
Drawbacks of the bullet train
The cost of the bullet train, however, might be a discouraging factor. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs. 1,10,000cr. Japan is providing Rs. 88,000cr as a soft-loan. The ticket prices will be higher and are likely to cost between Rs. 250-3,000.
