Navi Mumbai man gangraped by five; penetrated with coconut shells
In a horrific incident, a 36-year-old man sustained grievous injuries after he was assaulted and gangraped by five men in Vashi, Navi Mumbai on Monday night. Reportedly, the man, a resident of Turbhe, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and has undergone multiple surgeries. Meanwhile, the Vashi Police is looking for five unidentified men in connection with the incident. Here are more details.
Accused penetrated man with broken coconut shells: Police
The man had stopped for a cigarette on his way home on Monday night when five men kidnapped him and took him behind some trees, a police officer told The Indian Express. The five accused then thrashed the man, stripped and sodomized him. Senior police inspector Anil Deshmukh told The Hindu that the accused also inserted a broken coconut shell into the man's anus.
Victim underwent multiple surgeries; currently under observation
According to The Hindu, the man managed to reach a hospital in Koparkhairane. He has had to undergo multiple surgeries and is currently under observation, TIE reported. The man's statement was recorded on Wednesday, where he said that the accused seemed inebriated and may have been under the influence of drugs. He said that all five accused seemed to be in their late 20s.
Five unidentified men booked under IPC sections 377 and 34
The police has registered a case under IPC Sections 377 (unnatural offenses) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). A senior officer from Navi Mumbai police, told TIE "We have taken the description of the accused and are trying to trace them. We are also looking at CCTV footages of the nearby areas. The accused will be arrested soon."
