300 additional paramilitary companies to be deployed for J&K polls
The government has announced the deployment of over 300 additional companies of paramilitary forces in Jammu and Kashmir. This security measure is being taken ahead of the three-phase assembly elections, set to begin on September 18. The second phase will be on 25 and the third phase on October 1. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Jammu-Kathua range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, arrived at the Police Reception Centre (PRC) at Bari Brahmna Railway Station on Wednesday to welcome these forces.
DIG Sharma assesses facilities, briefs officers on election duties
DIG Sharma conducted an assessment of the accommodation facilities for the paramilitary forces. He also briefed the officers on the sensitivity and importance of their duties during this crucial period. "DIG Sharma emphasized full cooperation with local police forces," officials stated. The senior officer also addressed concerns raised by security personnel, assuring them of a prompt resolution to any issues they might face in their line of duty.
Paramilitary forces to maintain security across 3 districts
The additional paramilitary forces will be stationed across Jammu, Kathua, and Samba districts. J&K has been under central rule since June 19, 2018, following the collapse of a coalition government headed by the People's Democratic Party after alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew support for the coalition government. In December last year, the Supreme Court had directed the ECI to hold elections by September 30.
