3 coaches of Secundrabad-Shalimar Express derail near Nalpur Station
Three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Nalpur Station in Howrah, West Bengal on Saturday morning. The train derailed around 5:31am while switching from the middle line to the down line. "One parcel van and two passenger coaches have derailed. No major injury or casualty has been reported," Om Prakash Charan, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of South Eastern Railway said.
Relief measures initiated post-derailment
After the derailment, authorities sent accident relief and medical relief trains from Santragachi and Kharagpur. Further, 10 buses were arranged to take passengers to Kolkata for their onward journey. The South Eastern Railway also issued helpline numbers for affected passengers at several stations such as Shalimar, Santragachi, Kharagpur, and Howrah.
Recent derailments in Tamil Nadu and Assam
This incident follows similar train derailments in Tamil Nadu and Assam, where no one was injured but rail services were affected. In Tamil Nadu, a wheel of the Bodinayakkanur-bound express train derailed. Meanwhile, in Assam, a wagon of a goods train derailed in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section. In total, 351 deaths and 970 injuries were documented over the course of five years in 200 consequential incidents, according to data shared by Indian Railways.
